I love it when guest speakers come into my Fashion Business Marketing class to talk to my students.
Maria Carlton, Sr. Director of Global Go To Market at Under Armour, visited from Baltimore to speak to my class about her career in retail. She started as a buyer at Macy’s, worked her way through the industry, and has progressed through many different roles with Under Armour.
She dropped some great insight for students about the GTM function within retail and its importance. Maria creates the analogy of GTM being like the air traffic controller at an airport – they are not pilots nor are they experts in flying. However, GTM directs the traffic and helps the pilot get to where they need to be and when.
Students are always thrilled when leaders from industry come into class and make the time to share stories from their careers.
